We are Prepared for the European EUDR Regulation
Our company has taken steps to meet the requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The main objective of this regulation is to limit global deforestation and forest degradation caused by consumption and production within the EU. The basic rule is the prohibition on placing on the EU market, making available, or exporting from the EU cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soy, and wood and products derived therefrom, unless their production has not caused deforestation, they were produced in compliance with the relevant legislation of the country of production, and they are accompanied by a Due Diligence Statement.
The regulation has the potential to affect all sellers and buyers of the commodities or derived products concerned. It also has cross-border reach, as the change in regime will also be felt by operators from non-EU countries who conduct business within the EU.
The EUDR requires affected operators to comply with mandatory due diligence rules. This includes:
- Documentation Record-Keeping: A key obligation is the strict record-keeping of documentation for individual items during the required period. The availability and accuracy of this documentation will be subject to checks and audits.
- Traceability: Operators must be able to ensure the traceability of the products they sell, back to the specific plot of land where they originate.
- Digital System: Information on the origin of the products will be provided to the competent authorities via a digital system. A database of Due Diligence Statements will also be available, which operators can utilize when processing their documentation.
